When I’m at my office the pub is blocked by our firewall as being categorized as “gaming” but another site that I really don’t want to post at anymore because it makes me angry and frustrated isn’t. Anybody know why that site wouldn’t be blocked?

The only thing I can think of off the top of my head is that this forum has a meta description of “tabletop RPG discussion” to help it with sites like Google for rankings, etc. That other site might not. Sites could be blocked for this reason if the software can analyze meta-tags. I’m not sure.

At the elementary school my kid goes to this site isn't blocked while others are. It might be that some software defaults to allow until explicitly blocked and others default the other way.

Clearly your office's network admin wants you to be angry and frustrated.

They all do.

My workplace's blocked the Pub as well as the Site, but I really hate them for blocking Spotify.

Yeah, sites can trigger workplace firewalls by domain names and meta-tags. For instance, trekmovie.com is a general Star Trek fan site with daily Star Trek updates. The word "movie" in the domain name has it banned by the firewall at my work. They've also recently begun banning any site with "news" in the domain name and/or meta-tag.

Wow, didn’t realize some workplaces would go so far as to block ‘movie.’ I work in ‘arts and culture’ so that obviously wouldn’t fly in our office.

I work in accounting so they need to block is nerds. I’m just glad the Pub has a mobile friendly site. I’m going to try to stop going to a certain site and let the hypocritical owner just stew and become more awful.

One of my top priorities when I decided to get this place going was to have it be as mobile-friendly as possible. The data is hard to refute. Most people do their surfing on their phones these days. I use my iPhone/iPad and laptop, but most of the time I’m on my phone as well. Many RPG forums still use vBulletin 3/4 as their software, sometimes with Tapatalk. It was fine for its day, but I wanted something fairly clean and easy to use, which is why I went this direction.

I'm 99.99%on my phone these days. I wish that wasn't true but that's life right now. The pub software is very nice if you visit by phone. Thanks again for thinking about people like me.

I use an iPad most of the time, though desktop sometimes. It is right there with the basic roleplaying boards as my favorite forum software.
