    Favourite RPG System

There's a lot to unpack here. Is it because you have so many character points invested in your GURPS skill? I'd suggest figuring out what other rpg systems you can use your GURPS skill to default to. Barring that, maybe there's a sourcebook that can help to find a more diverse GM build?

Are you an Escapist or Explorer?

Heh. I do enjoy artsy-fartsy narrative games, though there's nothing quite like finding out what's over the horizon in the game world. I would be happy kicking in dungeon doors for quite some time. I did get many stellar moments out of Sorcerer, TRoS, and FATE 2e too.

Are you an Escapist or Explorer?

Escapism 1000%. I work in an ER as a crisis worker, usually for 12 hour shifts. I get more than enough "exploration" of real world issues during my work day. I do love the exploration of the game world itself like hex crawls, exploring dungeons, etc.

Anyone have ideas on their perfect game system?

I mean, it is my favourite system, but not my "perfect" system. I'm more often drawn to boutique-y experiences these days unless I'm breaking out old chestnuts. For example, when playing The One Ring you roll the dice, and by some strange alchemy, Tolkien comes out! When I play FFG Star Wars...

Favourite or Best Original RPG Fantasy Setting?

I don't think the original box set is hard to deal with rules-wise. I haven't read it in a minute but I don't recall having any issues going through it. It seemed fairly straightforward, but quite detailed. Still lighter than anything in the AD&D lineage, IIRC.

Favourite or Best Original RPG Fantasy Setting?

Hârn. I've had so much fun in that setting over the years, and the depth of detail is great. One has to (IMO) not be afraid to break the setting into whatever shape you want it to be. Some treat it as an inviolate masterpiece, which makes it less useful. While it's certainly a masterpiece, it's...

    Favourite RPG System

Fair. It's an old system (nearly 30 years old) and it's going to show its age. We're talking the AD&D 2e time period, which was its main competition. It was the age of exceptions, following on the tails of a slew unbalanced RM 2e companions. Given the sheer size of the project and the number of...

    Favourite RPG System

You're certainly not wrong. Not all the classes play well together, and the semi casters need to be built very carefully, as in deliberately min-maxed. The Magent is better than the Dabbler in almost every conceivable way, but I do like the Dabbler better. It certainly does need a reworking of...

    Favourite RPG System

I stand corrected. Also, it does have stats for a Vampiric Bunny, if you need another selling point.

    Favourite RPG System

RMSS is my favourite system. :hehe: It's Rolemaster turned up to 11. Is it over-designed? Yes. Is it a paperwork nightmare? You betcha. Was is necessary to produce? Absolutely not. Does it give an experience at the table that nothing else comes close to? Without a doubt. I have more or less the...

    Does anyone still play 4e?

I enjoyed 4e well enough. As a read I found it inspirational. The criticism that "everyone is a mage" is kinda fair, IMO. That being said, I was going to sell my slipcase of the core books and couldn't bring myself to do it. I would certainly play it again, and even run it if my group asked.

Do other media compete with RPG for you?

I don't know if other forms of media "compete" with rpgs for me. Certainly other activities take up time that I'm not devoting to rpgs: I'm a dedicated martial artist and musician, and take time to work on my physical health, etc. I see it as part of a holistic system to keep my mind and body in...

One of my players hates realistic games. I love them. What do I do?

I am mostly like that, except I can do sci-fi too. I can no longer watch or read "realistic" fiction either. I work in an ER as a crisis worker and I see enough reality as it is. I need my gaming to be an escape that puts a lot of distance between the world I game in and the one I live in. If...

    Your favorite flavors of genres

Fantasy: Tolkienesque (or actual LOTR) Gritty (Hârn, etc.) Old School with a touch of sci-fi (Wilderlands of High Fantasy, Arduin, Shadow World) Science Fantasy Sword & Sorcery Hex Crawls Dungeon Crawls Sci-Fi: Star Wars and similar space opera stuff; fantasy in spaaaace. Harder sci-fi...

Game ideas you've never been able to do justice to.

I want to run the Chivalry & Sorcery Grand Campaign, using all the add-ons from Minotaur, etc. Not sure that's even possible, but a man can dream.

    Making plate armor useless.

Plate is certainly nerfed in most rpgs, but plate mail seems to be basically lamellar. It's easy enough to change the stats and give plate mail a higher AC. I'll probably do that myself (my Shadowdark KS arrived yesterday!). Full plate IRL makes you essentially invulnerable to cutting actions...

    Shelfies

A bit out of date, this was in August. I've since added some more Free League Stuff (Bladerunner, Dragonbane, Forbidden Lands and Tor 2e).

So not into D&D...sell me on something else!?

The classic roll high fantasy is certainly Rolemaster, as others have stated. It does have class and level, but those are relatively easy to do away with, apparently: https://preview.drivethrurpg.com/en/product/191814/Professionless-and-Levelless-Gaming-with-Rolemaster-Classic

Which 2e books would you consider core if you ran it now?

I don't know if I've ever run a 2e campaign using more than the core of PHB, DMG, and MC. I only borrowed the MC and never owned it until my old high school DM gave me his 15 years ago. I only just recently got a copy of the 2e MM. I have the 2e Forgotten Realms Adventures, but I can't remember...
