I just think that there are some aspects of the TTRPG experience that can only be experienced when you play in a campaign that is long enough. The detail, the familiarity, the recurring cast, the stories of the PCs and their actions... A one-shot, no matter how intense, can't give you that.
I have some parts of the outfit and got the Wingsuit as well, so I'll likely follow your advice. Far Cry games are the only games were I use a lot the fast travel mechanics, I usually like to "roleplay" the trips in a sort, but there man, it's impossible to drive 100 meters without some rando...
I like the term 'mastery' myself. I read on the blog of Anthony Huso (bluebard.com) that every player should be a GM to their own PC: Be completely awatre of all the rules and skills pertaining the PC, so they can play effectively, not only in the mechanical sense, but in the portraying a person...
I've run lots of James Bond 007 and I love it, though I wouldn't call it exactly an spy game or spy genre, as such. It's more like "high powered action games in which the protagonists are secret agents." In that sense, despite the supernatural elements, Delta Green which I also love and have run...
What I've found is that GUMSHOE demands from the player a different (and additional) kind of proactivity from the usual you expect in any RPG. In any RPG you are supposed to be proactive and get involved in everything that happens, but in GUMSHOE you are specially motivated to look for and...
Just finished my first run at Ghosts of Tsushima, including the DLCs, and man, that game is gorgeous. It's the typical Ubisoft game (not made by Ubi but still): big open world map with lots of icons and small bullshit tasks to do, but it has been an absolute pleasure. Fantastic writing and...
If there's interest, I could use this thread to post short summaries (not full-blown APs, don't have the time for that) as to explain how the game is going. We're trying and getting slowly the hang of GUMSHOE, it takes a bit of different thinking from your typical RPG, CoC for example. Not...
Absolutely love it. When we played a game of Hunters Hunted, the capacity of my players to research and devise tricks and strategies to fuck shit up is terrifying.
Most systems allow for some Mechanical, Repair or similar skill that can be used to explain in-game how the PC can develop those...
I run the first game for my daughter and a slightly older friend (Prince Valiant) when she was just 4 years old. It's, to the this day, one of the most beautiful experiences I've had running a game. From then on, she has become really interested iin all forms of gaming. The youngest (7 years...
Hey, everyone
This Saturday we're meeting again for a session (eigth session) of our Eternal Lies campaign. I am additionally using the amazing material from The Alexandrian Remix, that you can find here. We're currently finishing the First Act, set in Los Ángeles, after a short intro in New...
Well, after a few weeks of reconditioning, I started a kettlebell program from one of my favourite program designers:

I'm using 2 kettlebells, 24 kgs each (52 pounds each) and well, the first day is...
Nothing really big. Slight adjustments, very small in some probabilities and, specially, a nice recap of all the materials for 1st ed in a nice book, very well written. It's very valuable as a compendium, and it brings lots oif new tables for events and the like but, overall, no big changes in...
Ah well, the answer is easy: a great part of psychoanalysis popularity despite its absolute lack of validity is because is very literary. Behavioral therapy is, by comparison, boring. :D Psychoanalysis looks great on books and film, real psychology not so much, even if it's far more interesting...
My players use this kind of rules as much as they can because they will get any advantage they can, they like to set up ambushes and generally they're pretty careful and good at planning. They seldom get into any place without having some sort of plan.
That is maybe because, according to their...
Despite psychology being a huge part of my life as a profession and obsession (in the sense of the OP), it rarely if ever shows in an important way in my games. Actually, in games like CoC (where psychoanalysis is assumed to be effective) I just roll with it and don't bother with showing real...
The thing is, @Baulderstone , that now that we're six or seven sessions into Eternal Lies I understand how the critics can see this system as a point-and-click adventure of old, a la Secret of Monkey Island. I think that's not true, and there's a lot of room for improvising in GUMSHOE (the...
This is a particularly important part of the matter.
I think that arguing about quickstarts vs full games is a bit... sterile. They serve different goals, it's like arguing about e-books vs paper books.
Quickstarts have, IMO, two goals: one, helping you decide if you want to buy a game by...
We are running a donation drive this month to help offset the costs of running the Pub and to avoid running intrusive ads in the future. If you would like to help out please visit this thread for more details. Thank you!
