    OSR: what is it even

I hope you're right ... but I don't know that 'kayfabe' works well on the Internet, especially in as confined and flat a space as Twitter.

I hate geese. A free roaming thread.

This made it on to the front page of EN World. Another site has fallen ...

    OSR: what is it even

And now you've got the BrOSR, which is taking AD&D 1E as sacred text.

    OSR: what is it even

I long ago decided to treat "Old School" as a term of art or euphemism rather than a historical description, similar to referring to the "Good People" or the "Fair Folk."

Wrapping up Adventures that bleed through multiple sessions in order to do 1:1 time

The extreme version is that it's the only way the TTRPG Hobby will survive once WotC goes full VTT.

    Top 5 Fantasy RPGs

While not my top 5, replace Lyonesse with Perceforest, and I could be happy with this list for a long time.

Mod+ How does religion make sense in a D&D-like setting?

BECMI got afterlife rules in "The Voyage of the Princess Ark" in DRAGON #180, complete with "Ancient Egyptian Nithian prayers are most effective at guiding the soul back to the body or to its proper rest."

Troll Lords gets the rights to do Gary Gygaz old stuff.

One of TLG's curiosities is that they almost always charge extra for the Print/PDF combinations, although it's less than buying the two of them separately.

Is it possible for a campaign to be TOO old-school?

And the Blue Plate Special version just dropped on DTRPG!

Favourite or Best Original RPG Fantasy Setting?

"Ogres deserve some respect now."--one of the design team talking about the game in the Game Wizards column in DRAGON #231. And the intro to Heroes of Defiance points out that the Heroes of the Lance tended to avoid a lot of fights, and big battles often resulted in the loss of characters. I...

Favourite or Best Original RPG Fantasy Setting?

According to the sales figures from TSR that were posted last year, it sold about as well as the 2E Tales of the Lance set at start. I think it suffered from being underpriced/overproduced, being planned for marketing to the novel fans without taking chain bookstore shelving and the like into...

Favourite or Best Original RPG Fantasy Setting?

The tie-in novels, unfortunately, were one of the weakest points of the line. The core game and all supplements are great and available on DTRPG ... but you won’t get the cards, which are fundamental to play. You can still use the source material, though.

Favourite or Best Original RPG Fantasy Setting?

Despite numerous problems with its metaphysics and other elements, my heart still belongs to Ravenloft.

Evil Genius Games vs. Netflix: Fight!

Further complicated by the fact that these days, ‘unethical’ gets used to mean anything from ‘serious breaches of law or trust’ to ‘refusal to take our side on a highly controversial issue.’

Anyone here know who (or whether anyone) maintains OpenD6 books?

Mine, by contrast, were flavor-related. I'd just spent the year before release binging the original Johnston McCulley stories, and I wanted something that supported that same flavor, warts and all, as well as other interpretations of Zorro. Instead, the RPG was focused heavily on its own...

Sourcebooks for the Solar System of Golden Age SF

HERO Games has a short PDF supplement on a Pulp-SF style Solar System, although it only spends a few paragraphs on each planet: Solar Smith and the Sky-Pirates of Arcturus

    My final WotC purchase.

The Archive didn't include most of the inserts done in the magazine, it seemed. In this case, I suspect it was because they couldn't find an intact original to scan, based on these comments from the editorial in DRAGON #174 (only two years after the initial release): "DRAGON issue #148 (August...

    My final WotC purchase.

Gary Sarli's "e20" project sounded promising, but it crashed and burned pretty spectacularly. On the main topic, depending on how you reckon, my last purchase of a product directly from WotC was in 2019 (PoD versions of I6, I10, and the Ravenloft Black Box) or 2016 (Curse of Strahd), and I've...

Which new release are you looking forward to in 2023?

We don't have the Adventure Edition version of SF yet, and I found Horror strangely disappointing for a reason I can't quite put my finger on...

DTRPG - new site on mobile is trash (at least on my mobile)

I get similar issues on my iPad, but given that the iPad in question is about a decade old, I don't know if it's the site or the browser. :)
