Disney looking to buy Fox

Best Selling RPGs - Available Now @ DriveThruRPG.com
I'm a huge fan of Fox's classic film archive but not familiar with what nerd IPS they owned.

Xmen and Fantastic Four

Plus domestic distribution rights for the original Star Wars.

And the Simpsons

Shoulda read the article! :hmmm:

It would be nice if they made a good FF film. A Silver Surfer film that didn't suck would also be awesome, he is such an iconic character his scenes in one of the FF films were the only decent parts. And with Doctor Doom we'd finally have a villain besides Magneto who was more exciting than plain yogurt.

The biggest issue is the way Disney will sit on IPS. And if it's something potentially embarrassing or doesn't fit with Disney's public image, expect it to be permanently swept under the rug. With Fox that could mean ALOT of properties and films

Given that they are trying to position themselves to compete with Netflix, I dunno. They'll need that library.

Speaking of Daredevil season 3 announced, confirmed to be based on the Born Again storyline. Hopefully they'll avoid going full Miller and making Karen Paige a porn star

I dunno, it is Netflix. Pushing "mature boundaries" is what they do.

I fully expect to wake up one morning, and discover that I've been bought out by Disney. I mean, if Vader is willing to sell out...

I'm okay with that tho. I'd make a helluva Disney princess.

Well on the upside Disney security can finally be uniformed correctly

Disney owns the distribution rights to all Star Wars films except for A New Hope, which FOX owns in perpetuity. I’m sure that’s a nice prize for Disney get in all this too.

They already have these guys at the Disney parks. I'm pretty sure the locals trust and like them more than the LAPD.

At this point, I'm pretty sure the Mouse has acquired the rights of every movie made in the 20th Century. :blah:

Random aside. Disney owns all the Star Wars movies except Star Wars. Which wasn't released with a secondary title.

So, Disney has now acquired Fox film & TV. For $52 billion.

So X-Men, FF, Deadpool, etc. Not to mention the Alien & Predator franchise, The Simpsons, Family Guy, Garfield, Fat Albert, Alvin & The Chipmunks, The X-Files, M*A*S*H*, Planet of the Apes, Manimal, Alien Nation, Ice Age, the Dungeons & Dragons cartoon, The Beverly Hillbillies, and films such as Fight Club, Edward Scissorhands, Home Alone, Die Hard, The Exorcist, The Omen...

Manimal? I mean how's that get on your list of must note?:gunslinger:

The acquisition hasn't gone through yet. It'll take about two years to complete, so we're looking at late 2019/early 2020. Even then, some Senators are taking a look at blocking it as they fear Disney + Fox would = media monopoly.

Eh, Time Warner is still around. But I expect them and Hasbro to be absorbed under the Disney banner in the next twenty years.

In the meantime, at least we'll get to see Bryan Singer's Dark Phoenix saga before the acquisition takes place.

Perhaps WotC will come out with Disneyland and Tomorrowland setting books for D&D 6E.

I hate Monopoly too, especially when the same player owns Park Place and Boardwalk.

I hate Monopoly because it's a stupid dice fest with no point and a long endgame. Victory has little to do with skill.

Monopoly was created to promote Georgism so it being frustrating and pointless was kind of the point

Yeah but what does it say that a game designed to be pointless and frustrating is a perennial best seller?

I can reliably win Monopoly against my relatives through trades and manipulating auctions, so I won't say there is no skill to it. It is still boring as fuck though even if you can keep people from putting money under Free Parking.

My nephews wanted me to play Risk with them over the weekend, speaking of slogs. I tried to get them to play with the capital rules, to keep the length down, but they were insistent playing the long version. We never got the game finished. I'd forgotten how many dices rolls it took to just for one invasion of a province in that game. It is still a much better game than Monopoly.

One thing that Monopoly and Risk have in common is that they are relics of a time when people had a lot more free time and fewer distractions. A game that could eat up a whole day wasn't as big a problem.

Risk I find best played online.

Yeah. I had some app on my iPad for a Risk knock-off that was a lot of fun. I could burn through a game against AIs in about ten minutes. It was pretty addictive at that speed.

It also solves most of the real life multi player problems. Someone knocked out? No problem. They don't sit around all afternoon waiting for others to finish.
