Witcher 2 and 3

I have both. Should I go straight to 3, or play 2 first?
Is 2 worth it? I hear rave reviews about 3, but not much (good or bad) about 2.
If I go straight to 3, is there a backstory or history from 2 that I'm missing?

I also picked up both 2 and 3 on a lark maybe 6 months ago, knowing nothing about either. I've yet to even install 2, I jumped right into 3. You'll sometimes run into NPCs that your character has obvious history with, but I never felt it distracting or like I was missing anything, it just made the world feel that much more immersive.

Eventually I will check out 2, I'm sure, but I had (and continue to have) so much fun with 3 that I've never bothered.

I was glad I played all three, but 2 was the weakest of the trilogy by far.
