I bought up a bunch of the classic crpgs on Gog.com after getting sucked into BG and Planescape Torment but then found I had burned out on that gamestyle when I started to play BGII. It's been a big enough of a break though that I'm getting the itch to dive back in.
I admit never really enjoying the BG format much. Real time with pause combat and the limited world reactivity (compared to Fallouts) made me sleepy.
And Planescape Torment I only love because of the writing, like treating it as this electronic CYOA book. It's "gameplay" is really awful IMO.

I'm not excited in the least with BG3 because of that. I'll probably give it a try on a sale though.

I'm at the end of the first chapter now.

It is fucking fantastic.

I will say though: First mission boss is true Fromsoft bullshit. It will kick your ass a few times. But once you get passed that it actually isn't super punishing hard. I've had a few boss fights I've had to redo a couple of times, but nothing major.

Started up Fallout 2 but have taken a break due to how frustrating the early game has been for me. First I had to save-scum like crazy in the tutorial area, then I randomly got irradiated in Klamath before spending a in-game month slowly clearing out the rat caves and resting to heal due to all healing items costing hundreds of dollars. Eventually I broke down and looked at a character build guide before restarting. I got back to Klamath a lot faster only for the game to start crashing.
So now I'm playing Cataclysm Dark Days Ahead and am having fun trying not to starve to death while building enough food stockpiles for winter.

I'd forgotten about the tutorial area. That really does suck.

Update, first chapter boss is BRUTAL. I finally beat it but it took me a while, plus making a specific build just for going after him.

Say hello to my mech "Wide Load"

BG 3 is not RTWP but turn based for combat, I understand.

Hope no one gets offended, but just couldn't resist with all the BG3 talk.

Picked up Bioshock (all 3 games plus dlc) for $15. It's for Xbone but runs on my X.

Also picked up Cyberpunk 2077 for Xbone for $15. Never played it, so I can't speak to its launch, but with the free upgraded content it seems to play fine. Gorgeous game. William Gibson said it was "GTA skinned-over with a generic 80s retro-future". Which is kind of true, but so what? Wasn't that basically the tabletop game? I remember a buddy back in the day complaining that the only two motivations in CP2020 were larceny and revenge.

Which, as I recall, also sums up the motivations of most of Gibson's characters of the time. Well, you can add 'survival' to that, but that's the 'larceny' part, generally.

Bioshock Infinite was a mind blowing game for me. Loved the story, and how complex it was. I know a lot of people didn't care for it, but I kinda think if there was a High Literature award for video games, Infinite would be it...

Trying to play Starfield - getting CTDs. The game is good enough that it finally got me to break down and get a new computer. But it won't be here until October 12th.

13th Gen Intel® Core™ i9-13900F
NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™ 4070 Ti, 12GB GDDR6X
64GB, 2x32GB, DDR5, 5200 MT/s
2 x 4TB M.2 PCIe SSD
Getting an 8TB external to go with it for my extra storage drive. Usually have my OS drive, a working drive for games and development, and then a storage drive for other stuff.

I'm very much in a wait and see mood with Starfield, in that I'll wait and see what some of my trusted reviewers say about it.
Plus it's $70 and I can barely commit that kind of cash to something that's as buggy as a Bethesda game.

Well, it's not going anywhere. A year or two from now it'll be cleaner and a bit cheaper. And if you get stuck, there will be lots of good guides/walkthroughs.

I have the Xbox game pass so it wasn't really an investment for me. I'll get it on steam later, but for now the game pass version is going well enough. I got the premium for $28 more so I have it even if I cancel game pass.

How's the character creation? Are there skills or did they keep with fallout 4's perk system?

70 bucks is definitely to much for a Bethesda game. If Starfield is as moddable as other Bethesda games, it will only get better in a couple of years. Just you wait until the good modders on LoversLab get going, it'll be great then.

chuckdee chuckdee why 64GB ram? Is modern videogames so demanding these days or are you using your computer for other stuff.

My wife got the download codes for Sea of Stars, which she backed on Kickstarter. Physical copies will be shipped later. She gave it a quick try and I must say it looks lovely and quite fun.

Your definition of great mods is different then mine.

So your not looking forward to stuff like Shlongs of Starfield and Sexlab Starfield Edition?

In case it still isn't obvious, I'm joking about this. I'm not ashamed to admit that I have downloaded such mods for Skyrim. But there's only so many times you can cast a mass orgy spell in a Skyrim tavern, before it gets boring.

I have been playing Dave the Diver. In fact I have set aside BG3 for now because Dave the Diver's chill, engaging, and addictive gameplay loop puts me a flow state and then 6 hours passes in the blink of an eye. Great pixel art, quirky characters, good cut scenes, solid music. It already has 50,000 positive reviews on Steam which is impressive for an indie game released two months ago. At 20 USD it's a great deal even if not on sale.

Hey I have been following this game and played the demo. Lemme know what your wife has to say about the full version.

Footage or it didn't happen.

First she wants to finally finish Final Fantasy XVI and she's also got Armoured Core VI Fires of Rubicon among her top priorities to play.

I want AC6 too but have too much on my gaming plate. I am sure it's great

Difficult to tell what is a joke and what is real when there were games such as...

That's very tame compared to what exists today. Here's a screenshot from Steam, after doing a search with sex as a tag. Sex mods for games like Skyrim are also very real, just look up the LoversLab site with Google. Probably just not at work.

I don't play video games so I'm good, but it's nice to know humanity is consistent in every endeavor.

Guys, there aren't any girls to impress on the 'Pub. It's okay to admit you know about porn stuff.

Unfortunately, at the time of writing most adult video game content is the work of enthusiastic individuals or rinky-dink overseas developers and not very good. Even in mainstream games it's pretty rare that you find a single person who is talented programmer and artist and game designer who can also "project manager" themselves through a long development. Hopefully some day soon an indie adult video game will be a wild success prompting American companies to invest money and talent into this untapped market.

I already admitted I'm not ashamed of this stuff. I just get tired of the comments from others, if you talk of it. It's pretty much the only type of porn I'm into these days. Besides some erotic novels once in a while. I can make a little longer post about my thoughts on this sometime tommorrow, if you want. It's getting late and I'm off to bed.

I use my computer for work.

I've now gotten even further in ACVI. I've beaten every mission, seen all three endings, beaten all the arena matches, collected all the in mission collectables... the only thing left to do is grind a bit of money to buy the last few left shoulder weapons I don't have (which will put give me the trophies for all weapons and all parts), and S rank all the missions (which I may or may not do).

Anyway, here is my current AC the March Hare.

So Starfield looks good but I’m currently busy with Baldur’s Gate 3 and then with the Cyberpunk update. As with other Bethesda games, I’ll wait until there are some solid mods out there and a slight discount.

I actually broke my rule and paid full price for BG3 because of the positive reviews here at the ´Pub. I usually wait!
